ZPM Taba Techi creates record in PR polls

ITANAGAR, May 25: Taba Techi of 1 Yazali Zilla segment has created record for highest winning margin in the recently concluded Panchayat election. He won Zilla Parishad Member (ZPM) election with the margin of 3621, which is the highest in the entire state. Hailing from Billo village under Yazali circle of Lower Subansiri, the 33 year old Techi is new age politician who wants to bring in positive changes in the society.

He holds bachelor degree from Dera Natung Governemnt College and most of his schooling was done in government schools.

Techi gives credit to the people of area for his victory. “Everyone including young and elders of my area supported me. The people of area have wholeheartedly supported and have reposed faith on me. I will try my best and I do hope that people will extend cooperation to me in the next 5 years,” said Taba Techi.

 

Re-polling conducted amidst tight security

DAPORIJO, May 25: The people, who are believed to be supporters of an independent candidate for ZPM, 6th Giba Anchal Block, have strongly protested against the State Election Commission for conducting re-polling at Marging polling station on May 23. They alleged that each and every party was not given fair treatment during Panchayat election. They further claimed that despite complaint lodged against the unfair treatment faced by their polling agent during the poling day on 16th May at Dignium polling station, no justice has been given so far.

Alleging many irregularities, they claimed that many under aged persons were also given permission to vote and many vote were cast against the name of dead persons. Claiming that second time re-polling was peaceful; they also questioned re-polling for third time. Protesters also demanded legal action against the officers concerned who had neglected their duty and violated the rules of democracy.

However, under the tight security with adequate police force  re-polling was conducted on May 23 at Daporijo. Section 144 was declared on the same day. All lethal weapons including dao were seized from people found in the town. Vehicle were thoroughly checked.

 

Economic Census launched at Pasighat

PASIGHAT, May 25:  The Economic Census 2013 began at Pasighat today. Person in charge for urban areas Oli Perme, EAC along with supervisors and enumerators started the exercise from the DC’s bungalow.

Pasighat town has been divided into 48 blocks and the census will be completed on June 24. It will cover all economic activities of business establishments, institutions, religious institutions, guest houses etc, informed Perme.

Describing the importance of the census, East Siang Deputy Commissioner RK Mishra appealed all the officials involved in the census to carry out their duties with sincerity and dedication as the data gathered through this census are used in formulating economic policy.

This economic census is carried out in every five years. DIPRO

 

Death mourned

ITANAGAR, May 25: All Puroik Welfare Society (APWS) has mourned the demise of Waru Maming and Waru Yapi who passed away on May 4 last.  Maming and Yapi, both school girls, were killed on a landslide that occurred at Waru village under Plossang area of Sarli circle in Kurung Kumey district on May 4 last, the Society said in a release. This is a great loss to the Puroik community, it said.

Offering condolences to the bereaved family, it further prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul.

ITANAGAR, May 25:  All India Rajeev Gandhi Vichar Manch International today deeply mourned at the demise of Sokjar Gamlin ,father of former chief minister Jarbom Gamlin, who died on 20 May last at Guwahati. The members of Vichar  Manch observed two minutes silence as a mark of respect.

 

Re-counting of votes demanded

ITANAGAR, May 25: Alleging violation of election procedure and provisions under ‘Arunachal Pradesh Panchayat Raj Act, 2001 by the Returning Officer of the 24–Tajgi Anchal Samiti constituency during polling and counting of votes, the People’s Party of Arunachal (PPA) has appealed to the State Election Commission to make necessary arrangement for recounting of the vote.

The PPA quoting its Yachuli Block office sources further alleged cases of voter impersonation and refusal to count valid tendered votes by the RO during counting of votes.

Buddha Jayanti celebrated with religious fervor

ITANAGAR, May 25: Minister for Planning, Finance and PWD Chowna Mein has urged the institution of Gompa and Kyong to diversify its activities from teaching spirituality to formal education for larger benefit of people.

Addressing the gathering on the occasion of 2257th Buddha Jayanti celebration here today, the minister said the institution of Kyong (Buddhist monastery) played important role in the field of education in traditional Khampti society.

However, with the advent of modernization, this traditional institute of learning could not attract the young generation.

Mein urged for concerted effort of all section of society to uphold the glory of such traditional religious institution with novel approach and tackle the menace of drugs addiction.

Of late Buddhism have found place among many of nontraditional Buddhist faith. He urged the people to profess the religion of his choice and assured the support of government to all religious faith to grow equally.

Chairman, Arunachal Pradesh Forest Corporation and MLA, Tani Lofa also attended the function and praised the teachings of Lord Buddha.

A discourse on Buddhism on Dana (Generosity)  Sila (Morality) and  Bhavana (Meditation) was also held in which Ven Bhikkhu  Dhamma Pala, Principal Maha Bodhi Lord Buddha College, Namsai  participated.  

According to him, the basic purpose of celebrating religions ceremonies is to earn punya (Merit). In Buddhist tradition benefit of punya can be reaped through the deed of generosity, morality and practice of meditation, he added.  He also talked about equality, morality and rationality in Buddhism.  Purification of mind is the essence of Buddhism and Vippasana meditation is the root of rationality, Ven. Dhamma Pala said.

Ven, Ratnadeepa , Head monk of Theravada Buddhist Temple , Itanagar spoke on practice and philosophy of Buddhism.

The 2257th Buddha Jayanti was jointly organized by Itanagar Buddhist Cultural Society and Theravada Buddhist Society, Itanagar to mark birth, enlightenment and death of Lord Buddha on the full moon day of Vaishak. Mass prayer was held at respective temple at Theravada Vihar and Gompa.

Drug peddler in police dragnet, 9 others rounded up

ITANAGAR, May 25: In a major breakthrough, the Capital Police apprehended a drug peddler, rounded up 9  drug customers besides arresting a culprit allegedly involved in a dreadful attack case in Capital within 24 hours.  While the drug peddler was arrested today morning, the culprit reportedly involved in horrific attack case was arrested at around 9 pm yesterday evening.

According to official release, the Capital Police swung into action when they received information at 11 hours today that a drug peddler namely Oyar Panor will deliver a consignment of brown sugar (Psychotropic substance) to one Police informant who posed as a customer at Ganga area near State Library Itanagar. The police team headed by SDPO Itanagar Taru Gusar and OC PS Itanagar Inspector T. Bage immediately conducted a raid and apprehended Panor.  14 gms (approx.) of suspected brown sugar has been recovered from his possession and confiscated along with his Scorpio vehicle (No. AR-01F-0767, White color) in which he came to deliver the brown sugar,   the release said.

While monitoring his mobile phone, the police also rounded up a total number of 9 youths who are the regular customers of brown sugar of Oyar Panor. A case vide No. 117/13 U/S 27 NDPS Act has been  registered  and investigation  is going on.

In another achievement, the capital police team under the supervision of SDPO Itanagar and OC PS Itanagar also arrested a culprit from Bank Tinali here yesterday  evening.

The arrest was made following the complaint received from one Tai Chali of Niti Vihar that on the intervening night of  March 13-14 an unknown person had cut both the hands of his son Tai Chonam at Niti Vihar area and left him in a precarious condition.

The police immediately started a hectic search operation at all probable hideouts of the culprit who was identified as Langpu Takhe, 21, ESS Sector Itanagar. But he managed to evade police  dragnet and started absconding.

Acting on a tip off, the police team arrested the culprit from Bank Tinali yesterday evening at around 9 pm.

 

 

No miracles to resolve India-China disputes: Antony

EZHIMALA (Kerala), May 25: Noting that a spirit of cooperation and competition prevailed between India and China, defence minister A K Antony on Saturday said negotiations to resolve the disputes between the two will take their own time and he does not expect any "miracles".

"It is cooperation and competition... naturally. Both are neighbours and we have to work together. There are many areas where our relations are growing and disputes in some areas for which we are trying to find solutions through negotiations. I do not expect miracles to find a solution to them. It will take its own natural time," he said.

On the whole, relations between the two countries were improving, he said.

Stating that India would continue strengthening its capability along the borders as part of continuing process, he noted that China, a modern country with a growing economy, was strengthening is armed forces and infrastructure along their borders.

"India is also a growing country. Indian economy is also growing and it is natural that we strengthen our capability and infrastructure along our borders on Indian soil."

Antony said the Indian armed forces were now better equipped than ever and one of the best in the world and that the country's borders- land,sea and air - are "very very safe".

"Now Indian Armed forces are better equipped and their morale is very high. Our borders - land, sea and air are very very safe. Our country's security is in safe hands. I am proud of our armed forces," he said.

He said there was a time when developed nations considered India not that modern, but that has changed and now everybody was keen to have close cooperation with its armed forces.

"Times have changed. You forget about the past. Now Indian armed forces are better equiped and their morale is very high. Now we are one of the best in the world," he said.

Antony said the services of the Indian Army, Navy, Air Force and Coast Guard are now in greater demand.

The Armed Forces have defence cooperation with nearly 48 countries now, he said and added that all Navies in the world want to have joint exercises with their Indian counterpart.

"In fact we find it difficult to accommodate," he said. PTI

 

 

Rongali Bihu celebrated

NAHARLAGUN, May 25: Rongali Bihu—the most popular festival of Assamese community is being celebrated with two days programme at Nyokum Lapang Ground, here from today with great pomp and traditional gaiety.

Extending Bihu greetings to the people of Assamese community on the occasion, local MLA Techi Kaso said Rongali Bihu is the essence of Assamese culture which is celebrated by every Assamese people irrespective of old and young and their spirit of maintaining the age-old culture needs to be appreciated and emulated by others.

Acknowledging the role of Assamese people in the development of the state, particularly in education sector, Kaso said, the contributions of Assamese people in the olden days as teacher, guide and brother will always be remembered by the people of the state. As compared to other northeastern states, we have the highest number of Assamese workers in govt. offices and other sectors, this strengthens the bond of brotherhood and cultural blending among the people of the neighbor states, he added.

Terming the Day as the Day of celebrations for people of both the states, he invited Assamese brethren of the neighboring state to join in the celebrations of local festivals of the state so that the unity and brotherhood of the two states further strengthened.

Edufest - biggest career fair at Capital on May 30 and 31

Maoist rebel trying to establish strong root in state

PASIGHAT, May 25: The Maoists are making all out efforts to establish strong roots in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya, particularly in the coal belts. The central committee of the Maoist rebels has been pumping in funds to the North East to expand their bases in this part of the country.

Quoting information from a highly placed security sources, an  Assam  based English daily covered the news about the Maoist activities that came to light after the recent arrest of a central committee member of the Maoists in Assam.

The report said that central committee of the Maoist rebels has been pumping in funds to the North East region for some time to expand their bases in this part of the country. The vital facts of the Maoists came to light after the arrest of a central committee member Aklanta Rabha and a few other Maoist rebels.

The security agencies reportedly have come to know that the central committee of the Maoists has been pumping in funds to the region every month through Rabha to expand the bases of the Maoists in this region and also to recruit members for the outfit. But it is still not known whether Rabha could fulfill the expectations of the Central committee in matters of recruitment of new cadres for the outfit.

The report further said that though the Maoists had earlier made attempts to establish strong roots in this region, the attempts failed because other militant groups were active in Assam and some other NE states and there was no vacuum for the Maoists. But the situation has now changed and the Maoists are trying to take advantage of the situation.

It is pertaining to mention here that the Arunachal-West MP Takam Sanjoy in January this year contemplated involvement of Maoist extremists with the anti-dam movement in the Assam and Arunachal resorted by the student unions.

Sanjoy, who was addressing a public rally at Pasighat said that Maoists were backing the agitating organization in order to halt the developmental process in the state.
