ZPM Taba Techi creates record in PR polls
ITANAGAR, May 25: Taba Techi of 1 Yazali Zilla segment has created record for highest winning margin in the recently concluded Panchayat election. He won Zilla Parishad Member (ZPM) election with the margin of 3621, which is the highest in the entire state. Hailing from Billo village under Yazali circle of Lower Subansiri, the 33 year old Techi is new age politician who wants to bring in positive changes in the society.
He holds bachelor degree from Dera Natung Governemnt College and most of his schooling was done in government schools.
Techi gives credit to the people of area for his victory. “Everyone including young and elders of my area supported me. The people of area have wholeheartedly supported and have reposed faith on me. I will try my best and I do hope that people will extend cooperation to me in the next 5 years,” said Taba Techi.

Economic Census launched at Pasighat
PASIGHAT, May 25: The Economic Census 2013 began at Pasighat today. Person in charge for urban areas Oli Perme, EAC along with supervisors and enumerators started the exercise from the DC’s bungalow.
Pasighat town has been divided into 48 blocks and the census will be completed on June 24. It will cover all economic activities of business establishments, institutions, religious institutions, guest houses etc, informed Perme.
Describing the importance of the census, East Siang Deputy Commissioner RK Mishra appealed all the officials involved in the census to carry out their duties with sincerity and dedication as the data gathered through this census are used in formulating economic policy.

ITANAGAR, May 25: All Puroik Welfare Society (APWS) has mourned the demise of Waru Maming and Waru Yapi who passed away on May 4 last. Maming and Yapi, both school girls, were killed on a landslide that occurred at Waru village under Plossang area of Sarli circle in Kurung Kumey district on May 4 last, the Society said in a release. This is a great loss to the Puroik community, it said.
Offering condolences to the bereaved family, it further prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul.

Buddha Jayanti celebrated with religious fervor
ITANAGAR, May 25: Minister for Planning, Finance and PWD Chowna Mein has urged the institution of Gompa and Kyong to diversify its activities from teaching spirituality to formal education for larger benefit of people.
Addressing the gathering on the occasion of 2257th Buddha Jayanti celebration here today, the minister said the institution of Kyong (Buddhist monastery) played important role in the field of education in traditional Khampti society.
However, with the advent of modernization, this traditional institute of learning could not attract the young generation.
Mein urged for concerted effort of all section of society to uphold the glory of such traditional religious institution with novel approach and tackle the menace of drugs addiction.
Of late Buddhism have found place among many of nontraditional Buddhist faith. He urged the people to profess the religion of his choice and assured the support of government to all religious faith to grow equally.
Chairman, Arunachal Pradesh Forest Corporation and MLA, Tani Lofa also attended the function and praised the teachings of Lord Buddha.
A discourse on Buddhism on Dana (Generosity) Sila (Morality) and Bhavana (Meditation) was also held in which Ven Bhikkhu Dhamma Pala, Principal Maha Bodhi Lord Buddha College, Namsai participated.
According to him, the basic purpose of celebrating religions ceremonies is to earn punya (Merit). In Buddhist tradition benefit of punya can be reaped through the deed of generosity, morality and practice of meditation, he added. He also talked about equality, morality and rationality in Buddhism. Purification of mind is the essence of Buddhism and Vippasana meditation is the root of rationality, Ven. Dhamma Pala said.

Drug peddler in police dragnet, 9 others rounded up
ITANAGAR, May 25: In a major breakthrough, the Capital Police apprehended a drug peddler, rounded up 9 drug customers besides arresting a culprit allegedly involved in a dreadful attack case in Capital within 24 hours. While the drug peddler was arrested today morning, the culprit reportedly involved in horrific attack case was arrested at around 9 pm yesterday evening.

No miracles to resolve India-
EZHIMALA (Kerala), May 25: Noting that a spirit of cooperation and competition prevailed between India and China, defence minister A K Antony on Saturday said negotiations to resolve the disputes between the two will take their own time and he does not expect any "miracles".
"It is cooperation and competition... naturally. Both are neighbours and we have to work together. There are many areas where our relations are growing and disputes in some areas for which we are trying to find solutions through negotiations. I do not expect miracles to find a solution to them. It will take its own natural time," he said.
On the whole, relations between the two countries were improving, he said.
Stating that India would continue strengthening its capability along the borders as part of continuing process, he noted that China, a modern country with a growing economy, was strengthening is armed forces and infrastructure along their borders.
"India is also a growing country. Indian economy is also growing and it is natural that we strengthen our capability and infrastructure along our borders on Indian soil."

Maoist rebel trying to establish strong root in state

PASIGHAT, May 25: The Maoists are making all out efforts to establish strong roots in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya, particularly in the coal belts. The central committee of the Maoist rebels has been pumping in funds to the North East to expand their bases in this part of the country.
Quoting information from a highly placed security sources, an Assam based English daily covered the news about the Maoist activities that came to light after the recent arrest of a central committee member of the Maoists in Assam.
The report said that central committee of the Maoist rebels has been pumping in funds to the North East region for some time to expand their bases in this part of the country. The vital facts of the Maoists came to light after the arrest of a central committee member Aklanta Rabha and a few other Maoist rebels.
The security agencies reportedly have come to know that the central committee of the Maoists has been pumping in funds to the region every month through Rabha to expand the bases of the Maoists in this region and also to recruit members for the outfit. But it is still not known whether Rabha could fulfill the expectations of the Central committee in matters of recruitment of new cadres for the outfit.
The report further said that though the Maoists had earlier made attempts to establish strong roots in this region, the attempts failed because other militant groups were active in Assam and some other NE states and there was no vacuum for the Maoists. But the situation has now changed and the Maoists are trying to take advantage of the situation.

Sanjoy, who was addressing a public rally at Pasighat said that Maoists were backing the agitating organization in order to halt the developmental process in the state.
